Pathways to Potential

About Community Fale

Community Fale creates safe, inclusive spaces for Pasifika young people aged 15-24. We help youth build confidence, resilience, and life skills while fostering leadership, teamwork, and cultural connection.

Working alongside the Clinic Care Team, we provide holistic support that blends physical, mental, and social wellbeing – empowering youth to feel capable, valued, and ready to make a positive impact in their communities.

As it’s core, Community Fale is a place for talanoa, empowerment, and belonging – a home where young people are encouraged to show up as their full selves.

Navigating the Waves Together

E fofo e alamea le alamea | The crown of thorns is removed by the same hands that placed it there.

Community Fale recognises that strong communities are built when people have access to the knowledge, services, and relationships that support their wellbeing. Our work focuses on strengthening the health and wellbeing of Pacific communities by creating accessible spaces where people can connect with trusted services, gain practical knowledge, and support one another. Community Fale creates spaces for talanoa where communities can engage with health, education, preventative care, and wellbeing services in ways that reflect Pacific values and ways of connecting. Through community-based programmes, outreach initiatives, and our Village Collective Hub & Clinic, we aim to strengthen health literacy, increase access to services, and reduce barriers that Pacific communities may face when engaging with health systems.

Our approach recognises that wellbeing is holistic and interconnected. Guided by Pacific frameworks such as the Fonofale Framework, Community Fale centres the relationships between family, culture, spirituality, physical health, and environment. By working alongside community partners and trusted providers, we support community-led approaches that empower people to take an active role in their wellbeing. Community Fale initiatives are developed in partnership with community organisations, schools, and health providers to ensure services remain responsive to community needs. Through this work, we aim to strengthen connections between rangatahi, families, and services that support health and thriving Pacific communities.

VC Hub & Clinic

The VC hub & clinic represents a central space within Village Collective where rangtahi and community members can access health and wellbeing services in a safe and welcoming environment. The term ‘Hub’ reflects a place of connection, support and community, while ‘Clinic’ highlights the availability of trusted health services such as health checks, counselling, and immunisations delivered through clinical partners.

Outreach

The name Outreach reflects Village Collective’s commitment to bringing services directly into the community rather than expecting communities to come to us. Through outreach initiatives, the organisation delivers health education, vaccinations, and wellbeing support at community events, schools, and local gatherings to increase access to services and strengthen health literacy within Pacific communities.

South Auckland Pacific Pathways Advancement (SAPPA)

The name South Auckland Pacific Pathways Advancement (SAPPA) reflects the programme’s focus on supporting Pacific and Maori rangatahi in South Auckland to explore and strengthen their pathways in life. ‘Pathways Advancement’ represents the programme’s aim to empower young people through leadership development, cultural, identity, and confidence-building so they can navigate education, wellbeing, and future opportunities with greater clarity and purpose.

Wellbeing Now

The name Wellbeing Now emphasises the importance of focusing on mental wellbeing in the present moment. It encourages rangatahi to recognise that their wellbeing matters right now, not just in the future. The programme supports young people to better understand their emotions, build resilience, and develop practical tools that help them navigate challenges and support their mental health.

VOICES FROM THE VILLAGES

“I have recommended the services to others who have also benefitted from the sessions. Again it’s important to understand the context of your clients and I can say that my experience has been great because of this.” – Talavou, 35

“Before we found Village Collective, we had sought help from other health and well-being providers for our daughter. However, these ‘Pakeha-led’ institutions felt uncomfortable and dismissive of what our daughter was experiencing. From our very first meeting, Koni made both our daughter and us feel at ease. Our daughter was finally able to speak and be heard. Koni helped her find her voice, allowing her to express her thoughts, feelings, and emotions.” – Mother of Talavou, 48

“Village Collective is a warm and welcoming space to be in. It allows those attending sessions to relax and not feel as though they are in a sterile, hospital environment.” – Talavou, 21

“Accessibility & Brown. This service is affordable, professional and is friendly on our brown and MVPFAFF+ groups. A service like this is rare” – Talavou, 23

OUR WORK IN ACTION

We’re constantly out in the community—connecting with youth, families, and partners to make wellbeing, education, and health support accessible and culturally grounded.

Recent initiatives include the Lotu Factor Symposium, mental wellbeing workshops with AUPISA, the Manurewa Community Network Wellbeing Expo, Fa’amalu Fanau deliveries across local churches, a Free Dental Day with AUT Oral Health, and supporting the NZRL Secondary School Tournament with free health checks and wellbeing advice.

Together, these activations reflect the heart of Community Fale: being visible, accessible, and present where Pasifika youth are, ensuring wellbeing is part of everyday life—not a luxury.
